SFX #401

Greetings, Ghostwatchers!

It is my genuine joy to announce that the 401st issue of SFX Magazine will feature an exclusive interview with yours truly regarding the upcoming Ghostwatch: On The Night special edition Blu-ray - and, surreal as it feels, mention of this also graces the front cover - the 'version unseen for over 30 years' relating to the reinstated opening/closing BBC1 continuity, broadcast conversion (tx-accurate), with special 888-Mode that reinstates the original Ceefax subtitle track. So there.

I've been a subscriber to SFX since Issue 14, for reasons obvious to those who know me. It has always packed with news, opinions, and reviews, and for the longest time was my de facto source of all things film and TV-related.

The interview covers a lot of the technical aspects behind the Blu-ray: restoring the aforementioned BBC continuity, recovered Ceefax subtitles, and presenting 31/10 in Teletext format. I also talk about the motivation for this release - about honouring the legacy of Ghostwatch, giving fans something definitive to the best of our ability, and diving deeper into the world of Foxhill Drive. The Blu will even have an in-universe collectors' booklet that explores the mythos with some exclusive revelations.

Readers will get hints about the Easter eggs, too - from playful nods, to some clever (well, says I) in-world surprises. I won't spoil them, but there's plenty to enjoy.*

I want to thank Darren Scott & Daniel Krupa for this opportunity. It's a genuine honour to share this with a magazine I have loved for decades.

And a quick update on the Blu-ray itself: there's been a small external IT-related delay in the next crucial stage in the process. Despite being a rank-amateur code-cracker, the issue has now been resolved, and hopefully it shouldn't be long now before the project finally crosses the finish line.

For anyone who's followed Ghostwatch from the beginning - or is just discovering the legend - SFX #401 will be a deep dive you won't want to miss. I even get to mention my nan. It's available on Wednesday from all extremely good magazine stockists.

Until next time... try not to have sleepless nights.
