Evidence Of A Haunting

Hmm... This might be one to look out for. Recently on YouTube, I stumbled across the trailer for a new film entitled, Paranormal Activity, and I have to say, it looks pretty impressive.

Taking place in a seemingly ordinary house, the reality-style cut is suitably eerie - even chilling at times, as unrelenting ghostly goings-on persistently threaten to end a good night's sleep for a frightened young couple in their haunted bedroom.

Some fans online have even started to draw parallels with Ghostwatch, The Blair Witch Project and The Last Broadcast to name but a few. If you're feeling brave, be sure to check out the two currently available trailers below...

  1. I saw Paranormal Activity, and it now probably ranks among my top 3-or-so favorite mockumentaries along with Ghostwatch and Cloverfield. However, unlike Ghostwatch I would never watch Paranormal Activity again, for fear of having to seek mental therapy afterwards. It was absolutely terrifying. I don't get scared by movies, but this thing was just ridiculous. I recommend it highly, but children and those easily affected by what they see on screen should steer clear for a while.

I'm not sure if I like it better than Ghostwatch, but it did indeed somehow manage to be far more frightening. It is far less rounded, but has a similar structure in terms of the method by which it scares the audience. A comfort zone is developed - in Ghostwatch it was Parkinson and the main studio, and in Paranormal Activity it is day time itself, everything outside the bedroom scenes. That comfort zone is then slowly closed-in upon and constricted until finally it is invaded by the malignant presence, and the audience is left defenseless.

It was far better than Blair Witch although it shared a lot of structural similarities with that too. In fact it was almost a celebration of the genre in that way, although I'm sure that wasn't intentional.

  2. I found Paranormal Activity incredibly boring and wouldn't watch it again though fear of falling asleep! It even ripped Ghostwatch off {again}! The scene where the guy goes upstairs and the audience thinks the girl is still in the garden on the seat. The camera pans around - and guess what? I KNEW that would happen! Ghostwatch forever. Nothing compares to it!
