Ghostwatch: Behind the Curtains

Greetings Ghostwatchers! You've seen the doc, now read the book! (...T-Shirts next, perhaps?) The term 'Labour of love' is often bandied about on most projects I seem to work on, these days. This piece actually took longer to make than the doc itself, as, back in the day, I wasn't even sure that we would physically be able to make a film looking back at Ghostwatch , at all - so instead, began documenting the project in paper form, just in case. It's 248 pages, it's got new interviews, it's got trivia, it's got a Foreword by Stephen Volk, it features an extensive production diary for the doc, it includes the complete sequel story 31/10 , it's in tasteful black and white, and it contains material which some readers may find to be interesting. Update time! And just as we were getting used to seeing "2013" on our calendars, another year has already, all but passed us by. From the release of the doc all the way back in March, though to... well, today, we've been fortunate enough to have some great reviews, wonderful comments and precisely zero hauntings, so thumbs-up, all round. So... what's next? Well, National Séance 2013 will kick off on October 31st. Details here and here , as usual. (we all know the drill by now, right?) There's recently been quite a bit of talk regarding the doc being made available to purchase and view online, sometime soonish. Happy 2013, Ghostwatchers! Wait, it's March, already?! Well, to be fair, we have been rather busy of late... Yes, over the past few months, molten picture and sound has been continually poured into cast-iron disc stampers, before being lovingly encased into hermetically-sealed pockets of retrospective goodness. Since yesterday, I must've said 'Thank-You', 'Cheers' or 'Ta' several dozen times (at least!) to everyone who joined in last night's festivities, so I promise, this is absolutely the very last time I'll say it again... To mark this momentous occasion (and also National Séance 2012 which kicks off at 9:25pm tonight), our new Gloryhole page has been updated with practically EVERY Ghostwatch Story ever sent in to the BtC project - from our humble beginnings on YouTube around 2007(ish), onward. Many thanks as always to everyone who sent in a message! Ghostwatch Stories are one of the defining aspects of the show's legacy and have helped keep the old 'Hallowe'en Hoax' firmly in the public consciousness now for *just* over two decades. During today's Hallowe'en edition of popular, kids' TV, nostalgia fest, 12 Again , a few of the interviewees discussed their experiences with spooky TV - ranging from The X Files to Most Haunted , 999 to Worzel Gummidge, and even Ghostwatch . It's truly remarkable how clips from one of the most infamous British Horrors can wind up being broadcast during the CBBC time-slot (how times have changed..!). Least of all when you consider the twenty year long (to date) gap between initial broadcast and now (which has yet to see a single repeat in full). Still, nice to see the show getting a mention in time for Hallowe'en. To check out the Spooky Special for yourself, click the image below and head to the 22:10 mark.
